Pillars of our Vision
Playwrights West believes a focus on new work development is the most important and effective way to progress the theatrical arts.
Playwrights West believes in bold, provocative, and unapologetic theatrical expression, storytelling that challenges the bounds of the artform, separating it from screen-based media.
Playwrights West seeks to support local, Pacific Northwest Playwrights - at any stage in their career – by partnering with individuals to open avenues for fundraising, dramaturgical support, public readings, and full productions.
Playwrights West seeks to partner with other theatre companies so as to reduce the risk and financial burden of mounting new and untested plays.
Playwrights West invests in the emerging generation, offering multiple educational services for teenaged playwrights, including in-school residency programs, paid internships, and full productions of student composed plays.
Playwrights West works to bridge generations by commissioning professional playwrights to discuss current, critical topics with high school student bodies - and then write teen centric plays so as to build a canon of dramatic work specifically for adolescent actors.
At Playwrights West, we honor all identities . All races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, genders, abilities, body types, faiths, and political views are respected. You are welcome here. The more diverse a society is and the more that diversity is celebrated, the richer a community will be.
